Product Description:
Plastisols are extraordinarily versatile 100% solid polyvinyl chloride thermoplastic materials.
Liquid at room temperature, plastisols cure into a flexible solid or foam with the application of
heat in the 350°F range. Available in a full range of hardness from soft and flexible to
semi-rigid or solid form, they are also available as expanded foams in low, medium, and high
densities. Various plastisol formulations are suitable for sealing out dirt, dust, and water.
They also work well in sealing, insulating, and anti-rattle applications, and they resist most
non-hydrocarbon based chemicals. Plastisols can also be designed to exhibit excellent weather,
ozone, and UV resistance. Processing methods for plastisols include dipping, flowing,
dispensing, metering, casting, and molding. Plastisol materials are listed on many Automotive
and OEM specifications and are used in the following applications:
- Sealer applied under the head of a screw
- Retention device applied to the inside diameter of a washer prior to assembly of the washer to a bolt
- Retention device applied to a bolt shank or threads to retain the bolt to a washer, a bracket, or other component
- Dipped or molded sound deadening component to eliminate noise or rattle on steel stampings, clips, or retainers
- Anti-abrasion or anti-scratch features
- Foam washers or gaskets for sealing or insulating
Plastisol materials are suitable for many single use static sealing applications where
flexibility and low cost are important and exposure to elevated temperature is not a requirement.
