Rimlex 620B Pre-Applied Compression Sealing for Critical Fastener Applications

Rimlex 620B is a soft, single-part, heat-cured polyurethane resin system designed for use as a compression seal. Applied before assembly and cured onto the component, Rimlex 620B helps create a reliable seal when the mating components are clamped together.

Rimlex 620B Overview

Rimlex 620B is engineered for sealing applications where the sealant is compressed between mating surfaces during assembly. This makes it a strong fit for fasteners, rivets, threaded plugs, bolts, and gasket-type applications where customers want the seal present on the component before it reaches the production line.

Once applied and cured, the material forms a dry-to-touch coating that can support repeatable assembly properties, help fill gaps, reduce noise and vibration, and provide chemical resistance to many industrial and automotive oils, fuels, antifreeze, and transmission fluids.

Why Engineers and Buyers Consider Rimlex 620B

  • Creates a compression seal when mating components are clamped together
  • Can be applied to many headed fasteners and related components
  • Provides a dry-to-touch, pre-applied sealing material before assembly
  • Helps reduce mess, waste, and variability associated with line-applied sealants
  • Can replace copper, aluminum, or other separate sealing washers in appropriate applications
  • Helps reduce noise and vibration while filling gaps between mating surfaces
  • Supports visual confirmation that the sealant is present on the component
  • May reduce the number of inventory items required on production lines

Common Application Areas

  • Rivets requiring pre-applied sealing performance
  • Threaded plugs and bolts used in sealed assemblies
  • Under-head fastener sealing applications
  • Gasket-type sealing on metallic components
  • Selected engineering plastic applications where the part can withstand the cure temperature
  • Potting applications for electronic circuit boards
  • Flange sealing on rivets or torsional fasteners

Design and Engineering Considerations

The interface geometry of the mating surfaces is critical to Rimlex 620B performance. Mating holes should be burr free and chamfered to help prevent material from being stripped or cut away during installation. For torsional applications, Forest City Technologies should review the joint design, face geometry, compression requirements, and potential need for a torque-modifying topcoat.

Reusability depends on the application, face or joint design, compression stops, and installation conditions. Forest City Technologies should position Rimlex 620B as an engineered sealing option that benefits from application review rather than a one-size-fits-all material selection.

Specification and Approval Signals

Product-specific approvals and specification references should be reviewed and confirmed before publication. The technical data sheet lists several approval references, including JLR, Perkins, Ford, Rover, and Textron Fastening Systems specifications. Proximity should avoid overloading the page with every specification in the main body copy and instead use this as a trust signal or downloadable technical detail when appropriate.
