Silco-Seal™ Silicone Sealing for Fasteners and Clips
Silco-Seal™ is Forest City Technologies’ proprietary silicone sealing material for applications where conventional sealing materials may not be compatible with sensitive plastics. Applied or molded directly onto a fastener or clip, Silco-Seal helps protect assemblies from water, dust, and air intrusion while reducing squeak, buzz, and rattle in demanding automotive and industrial environments.
Why Silco-Seal™?
As the use of styrene, ABS, and polycarbonate plastics has increased, manufacturers need sealing solutions that perform without causing substrate damage. Silco-Seal was developed to provide a soft, flexible silicone seal that is compatible with these plastic materials and helps eliminate crazing or cracking associated with some traditional sealing compounds.
Key Benefits
- Compatible with styrene, ABS, and polycarbonate plastic materials.
- Helps prevent crazing and cracking in sensitive substrates compared with some established sealing materials.
- Performs in high-temperature environments up to 225°C / 425°F.
- Can be applied to aluminum, plain steel, zinc and zinc-alloy platings, nickel, organic coatings, and stainless steel.
- May reduce total component and assembly cost by applying the seal directly to the fastener, eliminating the need for separate molded silicone gaskets or O-rings.
- Available in white, black, or gray.
Applications
- Under-head fastener sealing: Applied to bearing surfaces of fasteners to help seal against water, dust, and air.
- Panel clips and snap-in fasteners: Over-molded onto metal or plastic clips to support sealing and reduce squeak, buzz, and rattle.
- Automotive and transportation assemblies: Ideal for applications involving plastic substrates, vibration exposure, and elevated temperature requirements.
- Battery tray and enclosure sealing: Used where fasteners and bearing surfaces require reliable sealing performance in demanding environments.
Performance Advantages
Silco-Seal™ combines the sealing performance of a silicone material with the efficiency of direct application. By placing the seal directly on the fastener or clip, Forest City Technologies helps customers simplify assemblies, reduce part count, and improve long-term performance in applications where leakage control, temperature resistance, and vibration-related noise reduction are critical.
