What is the Precote 80 Thread Locking and Sealing Coating?

Precote® 80 is a high-strength, solvent-free thread locking and sealing coating based on microencapsulated acrylates. Applied as a varnish-like, dry, tack-free film, the coating remains inactive until the threaded components are assembled. During installation, shear and pressure rupture the microcapsules, allowing the adhesive to activate and cure.

Designed for high-strength thread locking with a reliable sealing effect, Precote 80 maintains its locking performance even at elevated temperatures. It can be used on both external and internal threads and is well suited for a wide range of assembly procedures, particularly serial and high-volume production.

Key Benefits

  • High-strength thread locking for demanding threaded assemblies
  • Maintains locking performance at high temperatures
  • Solvent-free, microencapsulated acrylate technology
  • Dry, tack-free coating that is captive on the threaded component
  • Consistent assembly properties
  • Good chemical and temperature resistance
  • Temperature resistance up to +170°C under DIN 267-27
  • Temperature resistance up to +200°C under GMW 14657
  • No post-curing after repeated temperature exposure
  • Helps prevent corrosion in threaded connections
  • Suitable for automated, serial, and high-volume assembly
  • Multiple formulations available for different thread sizes and curing requirements
Standard Precote 80 and Precote 80-8 exceed the required DIN 267-27 values after six hours of curing at room temperature, while fast-curing Precote 80-3 exceeds those values after approximately 30 minutes.

Where Is Precote 80 Used?

Precote 80 Version Recommended Application
Precote 80 Threads larger than M6 with pitches greater than 1 mm
Precote 80-3 Threads larger than M6 where accelerated curing is required
Precote 80-8 Threads M6 and smaller or pitches of 1 mm and smaller, up to a maximum of M10 x 1

All versions of Precote 80 are high-strength thread locking coatings and can be used on internal and external threads. The 80-3 and 80-8 versions provide the same physical data and chemical resistance as standard Precote 80 after complete curing.
